It is with immense sadness that we say goodbye to Liz Daley, a friend, an ambassador, a person filled with so much energy for life. I first meet Liz in 2010, she was one of Karakoram’s first customers. She came by our garage shop to get her new Prior Brandywine splitboard set up with bindings. The garage was dreary and dark, but Liz’s smile brightened the place up. As we set up her board she talked about moving to Chamonix, Liz gushed with enthusiasm for the mountains. Working with Liz was such a pleasure. We’d send her bindings for the season and she’d send us home-made cookies. It always seemed like Liz was on to the next big adventure- Chamonix, Mt. Baker, B.C., Mt. Rainier, Chamonix, Mt. Shuksan, Utah, Mt. Adams, Alaska, etc. She would come by the shop before or after a trip and would always bring brownies and beer for everyone, like a family member coming by to catch up. Liz would always talk about how “stoked” she was. I’ve never liked the over use of the word stoked, but now when I hear it I think of Liz as she was truly stoked on life and spending life in the mountains.
In the short time knowing Liz, we watched her live her dream as an athlete and mountain guide. It’s amazing to see how many lives Liz touched. Her smile brighten many peoples days and will be remembered by her friends all across the world.
Liz, I sit here with tears in my eyes as I write this. I’m stoked to have known you and will carry your spirit with me in the mountains.
